Pain is Relative

                       I originally saw this picture in high school, and every once in awhile it comes across my mind. It really puts things into perspective. When someone is upset about something that I don't really think is a big deal, I always try to remember that pain is relative.

The Clearing

He had been running through forest for what seemed like an eternity. The pale environment reflected his emotion along his journey. He dashed through the woods, dodging up-coming trees, and jumping over rocks and fallen logs. The farther he ran into the depths of the forest, the colder the air became, and the less the sun shone through the cracks in the leaves, until he reached a large clearing in the woods.  This clearing, this meadow was gorgeous. The glowing sun beaded down on the tall, bright green grass. The area was almost a perfect circle about one quarter of a mile in diameter. The grass softly swayed calmly in the little wind that pushed through the trees. There were no flowers, only luscious grass that covered the entire surface of the clearing.  He stopped his feet and stood still almost in the center of the meadow. The sweet scent of oak, and sap, and nature filled the area. Stiff, dried leaves from large, old trees growing bare cascaded the edge of the clearing....

Light and Dark

“The world would be better cascaded in shadows,” the Darkness said.             “But then the right path could never be found,” the Light replied, “Your existence is like a scar to the Earth.             A new figure emerged from the shadows, neither dark nor light. Cloaked in grey, the entity began to speak.             “You are both foolish! How can you not see that one of you cannot exist without the other?” The grey figure implored. “The purpose of the light is to drive back the dark, but without the dark, the light has no reason.”             “Then what of the dark? Why am I here?” asked the Darkness.             “The Darkness regulates the light. The opposing forces work in unison to guide the world ...
